The Story Behind White Orchid

On April 4th, 2005, my life changed forever. With the loss of my son, Nicholas, my whole existence was altered. Reality shifted and so much of what I believed in and planned for was gone. I struggled to make some sense of this, reading every book I could get my hands on for answers, exercising myself to exhaustion so that I would sleep and not have to feel the pain. Nothing helped.

Within the first year following Nicholas’ death, I moved back to the beach, which was the one place I have always felt at peace. One day, by chance, I happened to see a Yoga studio. I remembered my first experience with yoga during my college years. I remembered how calming and peaceful I felt after class.

I decided to try it again, and see if maybe I could find that peace again at this time when I needed it so much. As I started to practice Yoga, I found that slowly, little by little, I was able to find my breath again. I began to understand how Yoga can bring you back to your core, and how it can help you through the most difficult times in your life. You just have to trust it and practice it… and practice… and keep practicing even if you don’t feel like it. In time, Yoga becomes a part of your life, and changes your life in such an amazing way.

No one escapes pain or sorrow in life. That is common to all of us. But I can tell you from first-hand experience that Yoga will help you heal and grow, and live the best life you can. I feel so indebted to Yoga and what it has done for me in my life. It is my honor to share this gift with my community in hopes that others will find this peace, balance, and love that Yoga has brought back into my life.

Why “White Orchid”?

Orchids were Nicholas’ favorite flowers. He was fascinated by their intense beauty. On each birthday and on Mother’s day, he gave me orchids as a symbol of his love. I could think of nothing more fitting that to name the studio White Orchid Yoga as my gift of love and healing to the world in memory of my son.
