For Beginners

New to yoga? Here’s some information to help get you started.

Some newcomers to yoga come with a dismissive attitude, while others arrive nervous and intimidated, afraid they’ll have turn themselves into a pretzel.

The best attitude for approaching yoga is simple openness. Come to any class indicated for beginners, tell the teacher you are new to yoga, and explore this ancient tradition with willingness and a sense of humor. If this is the right place for you, you’ll know it.

Yoga is about establishing a healthy relationship with your own body and mind. Yoga is challenging but should never be painful. Tell your teacher if you have any injuries or physical conditions that might limit your ability to do a pose.

What to bring:

  • A gym towel
  • A mat (studio has them available for $1 rental)
  • Comfortable clothes that allow range of motion
  • Shoes that slip off easily (yoga is practiced barefoot)

That’s all! The studio provides yoga props that you can use during class. If yoga is right for you, you can purchase supplies at our Boutique or at any number of stores and websites.
