Greg Nardi Weekend Workshop

Date: December 7 & 8, 2013
Time: See below for details
Price: See below for details

Saturday, December 7, 2013
  • 9:00-11:00am ~ Ashtanga Led Full Primary ~ $35
  • 1:00-3:00pm ~ Essential Ashtanga ~ Developing the Inner Practice ~ $45

Through practice and discussion, this workshop will give you a theoretical model to understand the body matrix as applied to asana practice. This workshop is sophisticated enough for all levels of practitioner to benefit. We focus on awareness and understanding rather than physical vigor to help create the context for your physical effort to bear the most fruit.
In this workshop, we will talk about the theory of hatha yoga and how this philosophy views the spine as a central spiritual channel to raise consciousness. We will explore the idea of hatha yoga as a ladder to Patanjali’s yoga of meditation.
By using exercises that bring awareness to the spine and spinal muscles, you will learn the variety of movements available in the spine, and how to create greater movement and stability in the body.
We will explore the relationship between the appendicular and axial skeleton, the bandhas, the muscles of respiration, and the movements of the spine to create a matrix that will help you understand how alignment and movement harmonize to provide the basis for vinyasa, the foundation of the ashtanga practice.

Sunday, December 8, 2013
  • 9:00-11:00am ~ Mysore ~ $35

(students MUST have Ashtanga series memorized)

  • 1:00-3:00pm ~ Hips, Knees & Forward Bends ~ $45

Paschimattanasana, or west stretching pose, describes forward bending as a means of opening the subtle channels on the posterior surface of the body. In this workshop, we will look at the three symmetrical forward bends, or paschimattanasana poses in the beginning of primary series to help us understand the fundamentals of hip and spinal flexion. We will then build on this foundation to look at asymmetrical forward bends and what they teach us about proper use of the hips and knees so that we can safely move towards advanced forward bending asanas such as supta kurmasana.
